Obituary for James Alvin "Jim" Johnson

James Alvin "Jim" Johnson, age 72 years, a resident of Cassity, WV departed this life early Saturday morning, March 24, 2018 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV. Death was unexpected and attributed to a stroke.

He was born Friday, April 13, 1945 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Albert Carl Johnson, Sr., and Elizabeth Hedrick Johnson. He had never married. Surviving are three brothers, Albert Carl Johnson, Jr., and wife Sandra of Elkins, Joseph Johnson and wife Mary of Jimtown, Donald W. Johnson and wife Sue Ellen of Harding; one sister, Clara L. Sleeth and husband Donald of Belpre, OH; brother in law, Jack Carlisle of Sun City, AZ; nieces and nephews, Steven Carlisle of CA, Debra Ruppert and husband John of New Milton, Donna Jo Lantz of Parkersburg, Donald F. Sleeth and wife Carol of CO, Brenda Daniels and Matt Postlethwait of Elkins, Albert Carl Johnson, III. and wife Lisa of Beverly, Angela M. Nelan and husband Eric of Elkins, David Johnson and wife Kim of Glenmore, Tammy Lynn Johnson of Burlington, James Allen Johnson and wife Karen of Jimtown, Heather Johnson and Buffy McAfee-Johnson of Jimtown, John Johnson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Donald A. Johnson of Harding, and Dr. Jessica E. Johnson and husband Dr. Ali Hajiran of Morgantown, several great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are one infant brother, Robert Lee Johnson and three sisters, Helen "Louise" Johnson, Elizabeth Ellen Carlisle, and Rebecca Marie Johnson and two nephews, Joseph Richard "Joey" Johnson and William S. Johnson.

He was a graduate of Coalton High School with the Class of 1963, had served with the WV Army National Guard during the Vietnam Era, had worked at local sawmills and several local Coal Mines as a Mechanic and Electrician, retiring in 1995 from Bethlehem Mines. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, District # 31, Local # 1938, was a Methodist by faith, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting and traveling out west and treasure hunting. He always helped his family, was very generous and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 11 AM to 1 PM, Wednesday, March 28, 2018. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1 PM. Debra Ruppert will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV where the WV National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H. W. Daniels Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military honors.
