Obituary for Sarah Lee White

Sarah Lee Workman White, age 89 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Thursday evening, September 27, 2018 at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, WV surrounded by her loving family. She had been in declining health since July.
She was born Tuesday, April 23, 1929 at Morgantown, WV a daughter of the late Otto E. and Myrtle A. Kershner Workman. On September 5, 1948 at Morgantown, WV she was married to Zan C. White, who survives. They had celebrated seventy years of marriage. Also surviving are three sons, Zan C. White, Jr. of Woodbine, GA, Benjamin Y. White of Potomac, MD, Robert L. White and wife Lynne of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Jessica L. White and husband Kyle of Baltimore, MD, Jason R. White of Tallahassee, FL, Travis L. White of San Jose, CA, Emily N. White of New York, Alexa L. White, and Sophie N. White, both of Washington, D.C.; one great grandson, Logan T. White; several nieces and nephews and her special friend, Harper Brown, son of Alex and Janna Brown.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Harry Workman, and Paul Workman; and four sisters, Louise Smith, Betty Malcom, Ruth Haynes, and Bobbie Ayers.
She attended the schools of Morgantown, and was a graduate of Morgantown High School with the Class of 1946. She was a telephone operator for the C & P Telephone Company at Morgantown, was a member of the Spruce Street Methodist Church at Morgantown, and later the First United Methodist Church of Elkins. She was very active with the church and was a member of the “We Care” Group. She was a member of the Elkins Woman’s Club, a volunteer for several years at the Davis Medical Center, and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining and playing bridge, was an avid golfer, and was a member of the Ladies Golf Club. She was passionate about her children’s sporting events and other activities and was always willing to volunteer her help.
Mrs. White’s request for cremation was honored. The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday from 11 AM to 1 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home, Monday, October 1, 2018 at 1 PM. The Rev. Brian Seders will officiate. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mrs. White.
